St.Bartholomew's Episcopal Church logo

A community connecting, strengthening and transforming in an inattentive, distracted and painful world. As Christians, we gather to follow the tradition of Jesus Christ, a Jewish Palestinian Prophet. We recollect the stories of his first followers, who experienced a risen Jesus who invited them into a life-changing, liberating spirituality. We are an Episcopal Church in the Diocese of New York.

Our members live in the small apartments near the school and large mansions up the avenue. Some work in finance, others teach math, some build houses, and others play music. We have traditional and non-traditional families. We are several generations of Episcopalian, and others have arrived from different faiths. We stumble, but get back up. We pray, laugh, struggle, and celebrate, knowing we have others we can rely on in a time of need, or a time of joy.

We believe religion and science are compatible, and in the separation of church and state. We are "prisoners of hope," seeking joy. We build reverence for the world, resilience in our spirit, and responsibility for our community.

Our church has a tradition of contemplative prayer as listening, benevolence toward the indigent, pragmatism in our public life, and a desire to improve all our institutions around us. We spend little time judging others, but working to love one another.

As the Benedictines teach, ora et labora - Pray and Work.

We look forward to meeting you!
