In 2007, a group of Westchester congregations expressed interest in creating an organization modeled after the Industrial Areas Foundation. We launched in 2011.
The ability of the IAF to design and implement far-reaching strategies in the areas of affordable housing, education, health care, improved public housing, better services for those recovering from substance abuse, and environmental clean-up motivated leaders in Westchester to initiate a similar effort locally.
We are a growing network of synagogues, churches, mosques and other community organizations working to generate positive, concrete social change in Westchester County, NY. We believe we can stimulate constructive change at many levels – locally, in the county, in Albany, and beyond.
Issues arise from local congregations. We have been active in guaranteeing access to Kindergarten, reducing gun violence, and ensuring local jobs from the Tappan Zee bridge project. Westchester United trains congregants to be more effective in their churches and communities.
St. Barts is proud to be a founding member of Westchester United.
