Formation and Education
Rector's Forums and Classes
The rector leads forums after church for people interested in learning more about the intersection of faith, culture, and politics. This year we will have programs on women in scripture, the Ten Commandments, immigration reform, the Gaza strop, and suicide.
Every Lent he offers a Christian Initiation program for those seeking either baptism or confirmation, and a quarterly "spiritual proficiency" class.
Children and Young Adults
Sunday School gathers at 10:00am the first Sunday of the month with a volunteer teacher. We offer seasonal formation programs, such as our petting Zoo the first Sunday in October, a costume making party for Halloween, ice cream socials, and classes for kids on ritual and communion. In December, children have their own choir for the Christmas eve 4:00pm service, rehearsing three weeks prior.
We study the scriptures to discern what it says to us in our current context. Usually lectionary based, we occasionally explore specific topics. Fr Gawain meets in downtown White Plains Monday afternoons at 1:30. If you would like to know more, please contact him. We often use the Bible Workbench for study.
Every year, the priest suggests one non-fiction, one Christian theology, and one book of fiction for the congregation to read together. This year he recommends My Bright Abyss, by Christian Wiman, Being Christian by Rowan Williams and Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Email him if you'd like to sign up for partipating.
We see three movies during the year, one in the fall, one in the winter, and another during the spring. Previous movies include Noah, the Intouchables, the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Children of Men, and The Way. There is no charge. Check the calendar for screening dates. This year's films will most likely be Her and Short Term 12.
